I saw some roadkill today!
Most pigeons I know would dart from oncoming traffic – why did this poor thing stay put?
It’s fascinating – we cull blur-eyed pigeons from the street every day, leaving the most neuronally dense pigeons in prosperis.
But beyond surviving traffic, pigeons don’t suffer much more selective pressure. Maybe the occassional battle to win some family’s bakchormee scraps , but there’s plenty of that to go around.
They’re smart enough to avoid the dangerous humans at lunch, at least.
They’re peacefully silent.
They’re not scary like rodents and roaches.
So they survive!
In a low pressure with enough resources to go around, so do we!
But would you want to be a pigeon?
